Language of the Global Citizen
The age of digitization is characterized by the integration of digital tools and learning platforms in education. An increasing number of education institutions are including online courses and interactive tools to meet the needs of students in higher education. Academic literature in digital learning mostly focuses on language skills and assessment criteria, leaving the content of courses aside. To address this gap, we envision a new paradigm in language teaching that fosters student engagement with social problems of the 21st century and emphasizes the importance of inclusive societies.
The key goal of the community can be summarised as suggesting a new approach in language teaching, that is based on the 4Cs (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity) of the 21st Century, digital learning, global citizenship and problem-based learning; encouraging learners from different disciplines to contribute to the attempts to propose solutions to existing social problems while improving their language skills. The community will address SDG4-Quality Education and SDG 17-Partnership for the Goals.
